House Hiatus?

I’ve been on a bit of a break from working on the house, but I still find myself planning, dreaming, discovering. For example, this morning while waiting for the kettle to boil, I began to look more closely at the tile behind the kitchen sink.  Was it real? Was it white?  Was it a pretty pale Swedish-inspired blue? So there I was–in my PJs–scrubbing away at the kitchen wall first thing in the morning.

First of all, I’m not sure why it had never occurred to me to clean this part of the kitchen before.

Second of all, underneath the grime, dust, and sheetrock dust, I think the tiles are a) real and b) kind of a pretty pale blue.

So, here’s my question: How much should what already “is” in a given room dictate or determine one’s renovation plans? Is this tile worth keeping? It makes me consider tailoring my winter painting plans for this kitchen. I’d been thinking about yellows and buttercreams, but now I’m leaning towards a robin’s eggshell blue.

I like the idea of using as much as you can that is already there… it may not always be possible, but if you have something nice that you like and can work with, why not save a little money and work?

I think you’re right! Why make more work, right?
